RE-MEMBER-ING
RE-MEMBER-ING is an installation of three, inter-related works archiving the objects and close surroundings of my Grandma’s sitting room. Archiving was done from memory.
Drawing (50 x 70 cm white paper) is of my Grandma’s side table with her essential items.
Audio extract (1m 12s) documenting the ‘members’ of my Grandma’s sitting room. Audio consists of voice (reciting objects) and the sound of paper being pinpricked in the room of my studio.
Original work (29m 27s, looped stereo) is heard through headphones and a cassette tape player.
Text (A3 paper) documents the process of archiving the ‘members’ of my Grandma’s sitting room, remix of words by Mark Doty.
RE-MEMBER-ING
Members made poignant
Now withholding any narrative
Distilled into an aura of intimacy
Saved from the corrosions of local time
Giving the room back its body
The theatre of recollection
Thoroughly restores
A procession of existence
Costumes and illuminates
A kind of beauty not immune to time
But embedded in it
Re-member-ing
To hold on
To members that defend and render
Filling silence
An interiority eternally poised
